Miniatures

When I was young my grandmother would take me to see the Thorne Miniature Rooms at the Art Institute in Chicago. I was in awe by the way a miniature diorama of a scene from a specific period in time was able to transport me into that place.

My miniature paintings are created with photographs I've taken that are transferred and fused into wax medium creating a 3-dimensional layer enhanced with pigments and oil pastels. They are presented in shadowbox frames, inspired by the same attempt to capture and transport you into another time and space, creating an intimate viewing experience.
