Winter in Green Bay
I moved here 1 year ago this month, and so much has changed since acclimating from busy city life in Chicago to the relatively quiet, small town of Green Bay. How to survive the cold dark days of winter here… paint, paint, more paint, and teach!
I started teaching TryIt workshops in Door County at the Peninsula School of Art this summer and continue to do so, upcoming workshops are January 11 – TryIt: Pastel, followed by watercolor March 8 – TryIt: Watercolor.
Next week encaustic classes begin at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. The class filled up right away but there is still space available for the April session – Encaustic painting.
My newest series continues to develop and expand. Sample cabinet doors have become my painting panels and frames; after removing and priming the flat center piece the edges are often sanded to reveal the natural wood grain. Thumbnail images are below, select enlargements can be seen in the web gallery – here.
My favorite paintings in this series are long and narrow, making for unusual and interesting composition options.
I’ve also discovered local art organizations and exhibition opportunities, it just took a little time but the arts are alive and well in Green Bay and the surrounding areas!
I’m grateful to be passionate about teaching and creating art, there are so few distractions this time of year.
