Lazy Days of August
It’s hard to believe Labor Day is around the corner, and my outdoor festival exhibitions are over for the season. I have limited the number of festivals I participate in to four because it’s so much work.
New shows this year were in Madison and Sturgeon Bay. Most of my paintings have been elevated and presented with natural wood frames, something that developed with my husband’s expertise this past winter. We also added an outdoor rug to the booth setup (when weather permitted). I want to create more of an indoor gallery setting in a 10’x10′ outdoor exhibition space!

Artfest Green Bay is the one show local to my house and with a 5 minute commute how could I resist. Last year this show was my first in the Fox Valley and my sales were disappointing despite high attendance. This year was the opposite and a big success. It just goes to prove there is no logic… as an exhibitor all I can do is provide work I am proud of, and if the show promoters do their job and bring in the visitors and patrons, the art has to speak for itself.

Appleton Art in the Park was my second year of participating, and it consistently draws huge attendance, too bad the park doesn’t provide air conditioning! It was so hot and the weather is always the one thing that stresses me out, something we have no control over.
Now that the summer festivals are behind me, I am focused on some down time as I have become a bird watcher from the comfort of my front porch. I plan on starting a sketchbook using my observations and photos of local visitors from Cardinals to Woodpeckers to Goldfinches.

End of summer and entering the fall season will be low key for me, although I’ll be teaching a beginner 1 day pastel workshop at the end of the month at Peninsula School of Art. There are still spots remaining if you are curious about the soft pastel medium.
